    Dear OES Families:

I am thrilled to be posting this as the newly appointed Principal of the Octorara Elementary School.  I come to this role with 24 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in the Octorara Area School District.  While I have enjoyed the challenges that each role has presented, I think I left a piece of my heart at OES when I was principal here in 2012-2013.  I am very excited to be back with the teachers, staff and especially your students.

Originally from the Pittsburgh area, I moved to eastern PA in 1993.  I received a bachelor’s degree from LaRoche University and a master’s degree from Duquesne University, both in Pittsburgh.  I later went on to Drexel University where I earned a doctorate in educational leadership.

As a certified English teacher, I taught for five years in the Oxford Area School District and one year in Coatesville before coming to Octorara.  My three children, who are now grown, all graduated from Octorara, and I am so proud of the education they received here.

During the past month, I’ve gotten to know many of your students already and each of them has unique gifts that contribute to their success.  I am very proud of the work OES teachers and staff have been doing all year to support your student’s progress and growth.  Many thanks to those of you who attended parent-teacher conferences last week and the vocabulary parades.  It was wonderful seeing you come to support your children.

Please feel free to reach out to me at any time.  My door is always open should you have a question, concern or need as it pertains to your child’s success at OES.  Supporting our students’ academic, social and emotional growth is no small feat. As a parent or guardian, you are a crucial member of our team, and it is only when we work together that we can best meet the needs of our students.

Believe it or not, the end of the school year is rapidly approaching. Here are some dates to remember in the short term:

    • No school March 28th-April 1st for Spring Break.  School is in session on Tues. April 2 for a snow make up day.
    • PSSA Testing:
      • April 23, 24, 25, 30; May 1 (ELA and Math Grades 3 and 4)
      • May 2, 3 (4th grade Science only)

Thank you for your support, and I wish you a safe and enjoyable spring break.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Elena Tachau
