Role of the School Counselor

  • 1) As a Leader

    Playing an active role in leading students to succeed through school-based leadership, school improvement and curriculum focused on academic and personal/social development.

    2) As an Advocate

    Advocate for students to be able to access academic, career and personal/social curriculum and support programs at the individual, group or entire school population level.

    3) As a Collaborator

    The counselor collaborates with school staff, parents, outside agencies and local businesses to promote student achievement of goals through academic and counseling standards.

    4) As an Agent of Systemic Change

    School Counselors act on identified challenges that impede students success by serving on committees to influence program and policy change. Helping to create action plans that address identified needs of students to maximize their potential for success.
