General Language Arts Information
Scholastic’s parent site is a great place to start when you are looking for information about reading.
Reading Rockets is a PBS site that also gives parents great tips for helping your child.

Mem Fox is not only a writer of children’s books, she is a writer that advocates for children. Her website contains family reading activities, audio of her reading aloud her books, and her writing about the reading process to help parents understand from a child’s point of view.
ReadWriteThink is a wonderful resource that provides parents with podcasts, at-home activities, and grade-specific tips and hints to help your child with their reading and writing skills. To get started, click on the “Parent and After-school Resources” tab and select your child’s grade level.
The Longman English Dictionary is great for kids who need a definition in kid-friendly language.
Reading
Scholastic’s Book Wizard is a fast and easy way to find book titles that match your child’s independent reading level. Select the “Search by Reading Level” tab to begin your search.
Seussville is the online home of everything Seuss. The site changes but always includes information about Dr. Seuss’s books, games that explore the Seuss world, and information on how adults and children can explore the world of reading.
Learning Games for Kids has a broad collection of games on topics from the ABC’s to analogies. This site includes free online games for many subject areas.
Reading Resource is a site where you can print games that will help your child to learn to read and to learn sound patterns.

Tween Tribune is a free educational resource offered by the Smithsonian for grades K-12 students and teachers. The site is a terrific resource for informational reading. It includes daily news with text, photos, and graphics about current events, history, art, culture, and science.
Writing

GrammarGrammaropolis is a great site for a quick grammar review. The site gives simple definitions for the most basic parts of speech. It also provides simple games and quizzes to help your child review.
IXL provides on-grade-level practice for the grammar your child will be asked to know. To begin, choose your child’s grade level and which skill you would like to review.
Vocabulary
Free Rice is a site with two missions: to help people gain a larger vocabulary and to feed people. This game is simple – choose a synonym for the challenge word and the site will give you a harder word.
